Por aquí, nos encontramos con hombres y mujeres que son más o menos así:
Los hombres están todos curvados, cargados hasta arriba de leña (apoyada sobre la frente, no sabemos cómo aguantan los cuellos)... Miran poquito a los ojos, fijos en la tierra. Machete en mano, dispuestos a cortar cualquier rama o raíz de un tajo.
Las mujeres, al revés. Columna erguida, dispuesta para cargar sacos y cubos sobre la cabeza. Siempre con el corte (falda) del mismo color, y una camisa de rayas de colores (en caso de niñas puede ser sustituida por camisetas). Pelo largo recogido en una trenza, que sólo se sueltan en caso de confianza.
Here in San marcos, the men and women are more or less like the ones in the pictures above.
The men are hunched over, weighed down with firewood. They wear straps around their forehead; we don't know how their necks cope!. Forced to star at the ground, they don't make much eye contact. Holding a Machete, they're always ready to slash through any sticks or roots blocking their path.
On the other hand the women walk with straight backs , carrying sacks and buckets full of fruit on their head. They all wear the same straight skirts and colourful stripy blouses (the girls sometimes wear T-shirts instead). Their long hair is always worn up, only to be let down in front at home.
